Years ago, most shopfronts carried a hand-painted sign, elegantly and perfectly crafted with swirls, flourishes and pinstriping – a pub, drapery, a corner store or bakery. Today, the art of traditional signwriting is a dying trade. The skill and technique which takes years of experience to perfect is being lost as advances in technology have made the process a lot easier and quicker. But it doesn’t compare with the skills of drafting and perfecting each character in a single stroke by hand.
