Joanna Bone has worked in the field of glass for more than 20 years – she is an internationally recognised Glass Artist and Maker, specializing in blown and cut glass.

Today, she is regarded as one of Queensland’s foremost glass artists, with work held in major public and private collections worldwide, including the National Gallery of Australia (Canberra), the Australian National Glass Collection and the Film Museum of Tehran.

Jo is the only Queensland- based artist to have won the prestigious Ranamok Glass Prize for Australian and New Zealand artists and the respected Stanthorpe Art prize for 3D.

After studying Glass Design at University of Wolverhampton, UK, and later completing a Master’s degree at the Royal College of Art (London, UK), she relocated to Australia in 2002. She became immersed in Queensland’s coastal and marine environment, the natural habitat of many of the shells that have long inspired her practice. The colours, textures, and organic forms of this landscape renewed her fascination with pattern, repetition and structure. Renowned for her use of the cane roll-up technique in the hotshop, Joanna creates intricate sea urchin-inspired glass forms that are deeply cut and engraved to reveal complex surface patterns beneath.

Visitors to the Heritage Makers Fair 2027 will have the rare opportunity to see Joanna Bone’s extraordinary work up close. Throughout the event, Jo will be demonstrating her intricate engraving techniques, offering a fascinating insight into the craftsmanship, precision and artistry behind each creation.

You can also purchase one (or some) of her original pieces at the Fair, or check out her website https://www.joboneglass.com/
