“Our informal stitching group, affectionately known as Ruby Tuesday’s, has been stitching together for many years over a cup of tea, lunch, and maybe second lunch with the left over morning tea. We still get a lot of stitching done as well as solve the problems of the world as we go.

For the past five years or so we’ve been working on common projects and continue to amaze each other with how differently they all turn out.

Initially we were all very cautious, following instructions to the letter, helping each other interpret the stitch directions (and U-tube videos) very precisely. Now many of our group have the confidence to go ‘rogue’ adapting threads, colours, and stitches to suit their own style. A couple of the more artistic of us are now designing their own original projects as well.

We use surface embroidery techniques using a variety of stitches from the simple ones we learnt as kids at school, to the more complex three dimensional techniques called, unromantically, Stump work.

We’ve come a long way helping each other out with problem solving our work together over the years, hopefully for many more to come.’
