Australian Pollinators by Michelle Hutton
Curiosity about native bees in my garden led me to discover 24 commonly found in Queensland. Based on artwork by Gina Cranston, the design of this original quilt was to showcase their diverse varieties by rending them in freemotion thread paint stitching. The quilting on the indigo woven strips symbolises the bee flight lines weaving their way through nature and our lives. The Shibori boarder represents the life giving. To keep the frame dark, the indigo was dipped 20 times.
