how to enter quilts

Entering is easy, no matter what area in SEQld or northern NSW you’re from. We have participating locations near you where you can drop off your quilt (in it’s own labelled bag with your completed entry forms) on the dates nominated, and pick them up from the same venue after the event.

Traditional to contemporary, art quilts, patchworks and exploratory creations, award-winners to novices, be sure to enter the Gympie Rotary HERITAGE MAKERS FAIR, 5 – 6 JULY 2025!

NON-PROFESSIONAL

Class 1 – Pieced Quilt – Piecing and Quilting to be all your own work, Large (no side shorter than approx 150cm) – First: $150 & Rosette; Second: Rosette

Class 2 – Predominantly Appliqué Quilt and/or Mixed Technique Quilt, to be all own your work, Large (no side shorter than approx 150cm) – First: $150 & Rosette; Second: Rosette

Class 3 – Art Quilt / Wall Hanging – Any Technique, to be all own your work, Small (no side longer than approx 150cm) – First: $150 & Rosette; Second: Rosette

Class 4 – Any Technique & Size – Commercially Quilted (the owner/maker has paid for the quilting – please name the quilter) – First: $150 & Rosette; Second: Rosette

Class 9 – NEW! SUSTAINABLE QUILT – defined as a quilt which has been made with minimal negative impact on the environment. A minimum 75% of the fabric used must be re-purposed from materials/ functional textiles (eg curtains, clothing or bedding) and discarded items (eg packaging). The remaining 25% must be from vintage/ old fabrics from your stash, not bought new. Please provide as much detail as possible in your submission about what makes your quilt sustainable, materials used etc.

Judged using the following criteria:
a) At least 75% of the fabric used should be re-purposed and the remaining 25% should be second hand (avoid buying new).
b) Points will be awarded for using biodegradable or recycled materials, or materials made from natural resources eg bamboo.
c) While design, creativity, colour and execution will be taken into account, the emphasis will be on the sustainability of the piece – First: $150 & Rosette; Second: Rosette

Class 10 –  GROUP/ COLLABORATIVE QUILT – Made by 3 or more people, includes Round Robin, Friendship and Raffle Quilts. May be commercially quilted. – First: $150 & Rosette; Second: Rosette

CREATIVE USE OF COLOUR – All judged quilts are eligible. Consideration will be given to how the colour choices made contribute to the overall balance of the quilt and how colour has been used to give the quilt its unique visually emotive and personal look. All judged quilts are eligible for this award – First: $150 & Rosette; Second: Rosette

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE – Best of Show
Entry forms include entries for: all Quilt Entries and Story Quilts; Queries – call Kathy 0409 621 232. Entry forms to exhibit your quilt(s) in the 2025 event will be available closer to the event.

STORY OR HISTORY QUILTS – share the story with us….
Quilts that are special to their owners – makes them smile, invokes a memory, has a special place in their family or their heart – are entered to share their unique tale. Intriguing, humourous, generations old and/or heartfelt – not necessarily technically proficient – these quilts are the very essence of the quilting traditions. Signs of wear are signs of love! Please enter!
